Cosset & Walker starts running!

Hello, my name is Maggie Reilly and I am the owner of Cosset & Walker.

I am a ‘local girl’ having lived all my life on a road adjoining Ashton Park close to Ashton-on-Mersey Village in Sale and I count my blessings every day for a job that enables me to work with animals, in an area that I love, and where the local people are so lovely.

The one disappointing thing for me is the significant amount of dog mess that I have  been noticing in the local parks and along the popular walking routes over the last 12 months and I am continuing to try and raise awareness of this issue within the local dog owning community in an attempt to improve the situation.

Our dogs need to be able to run free in order to get sufficient exercise but owners HAVE to be responsible and respectful of the environment in order for us to continue to be allowed to do this. We have to share our walk routes and parks with lots of other people  – families and young children, Sunday Footballers, cyclists and people who just want to relax in the sunshine. Unless, as dog owners, we are able to keep our dogs under control off lead and unless we clean up after our dogs each and every time we are in danger of moving towards an “us and them” situation.

The majority of dog owners are sensitive and respectful of their environment and we just need to keep on at the few who are clearly neglecting their duty. If you see somebody walking away, I suggest politely offering a couple of bags – and if you forget your doggy bags yourself just ask a fellow dog owner, they will be more than happy to help!!

I am currently giving all my clients at Cosset & Walker large packs of 50 Scoopy Doo Doggy Poo Bags both as a reminder to us all of our responsibility as dog owners and as a thank you to existing clients who I know carry out their duty religiously. Of course any type of bag can be used for clearing up after your dog – many people even use old carrier bags. I favour these bags simply because (as well as being scented and easy to tie) they are non-toxic, bio-degradable and recyclable all of which I think are important additional considerations for our environment.  I am more than happy to bear the cost of providing these to my clients or to people I meet when I’m out and about if it helps to improve the local environment for my community and would implore all dog owners to please do your bit too to bring about an end to this annoyingly unnecessary problem.
